The Sumner County Board of County Commissioners met in special session on September 1, 2026, to conduct organizational business including elections and procedural setup. Meeting Overview

Election of Commission Chairman

Commissioner Mark Harrison was elected as the Chairman of the Sumner County Commission by a vote of 18 to 5.

Election of Chairman Pro Tem

Commissioner Jerry Becker was unanimously elected as Chairman Pro Tem of the Sumner County Commission.

Adoption of Standing Rules and Procedures

The Commission approved the Standing Rules and Procedures of the Sumner County Commission with an amendment allowing further amendments by simple majority through the October 2026 meeting, passing unanimously.

Committee Slate Approval

The Commission ultimately approved a committee membership slate as amended, including adding Commissioners to the Beer Board and making other membership adjustments, by a vote of 21 to 3.

Establishment of Commission Meeting Time

The meeting time for the September 21, 2026 Commission meeting was set to 6:30 p.m. by unanimous vote.

Committee Chairmanships and Vice-Chairmanships

Chairman Harrison announced the election of committee chairmen and vice-chairmen for the 2026-2027 term across all standing committees and boards.

Approval of Official Bonds for County Officials

Resolution 2609-02S approving official bonds for county officials totaling $12,992,451 was approved unanimously.

Public Comment on Standing Rules Guidance

Resident Steven Puckett requested that the Clerk provide a supplemental guide explaining to citizens how to direct questions and details about neighbors' rights regarding developments.

Public Notice of Upcoming Volunteer Fire Committee Meeting

Curtis Williams reminded Commissioners about the Volunteer Fire Ad Hoc Committee meeting scheduled for September 10, 2026, encouraging attendance from newly elected Commissioners.

Distribution of Commemorative Items to Commissioners

County Mayor John Isbell distributed lapel pins to newly elected Commissioners and America 250 commemorative coins to all Commissioners.
