Beer Application Procedures and Instructions

*It is unlawful to sell beer until this application is approved by the Sumner County Beer Board.*

  1. Application Requirements
    1. If the business is located inside the city limits, make application with that City Hall.
    2. If your business is located in the county make application with the County Clerk’s office in the county the business is located.
    3. Questions regarding zoning should be directed to the appropriate Codes Department.
  2. Submit Application
    1. Present the completed Beer Permit Application with the $250.00 non-refundable application fee to the County Clerk’s office prior to the Beer Board Committee meeting, which meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The applicant is required to attend.
    2. The notice will be in the newspaper 10 days before the meeting.
  3. Distance
    1. Alcoholic beverages shall not be stored, sold or manufactured within 500 feet of any school, church or public gathering place. For purposes of this rule the distance shall be measured in a direct line.
  4. Annual Fees and Rates
    1. There is a $100.00 privilege tax due each January for your Beer License. You will be required to pay a prorated fee upon approval of your Beer License.
    2. If the Beer Permit is issued, you will apply for a County Business License. Application fee is $15.00.
    3. A copy of your Sales Tax Registration certificate is required.
