Surplus Property Declarations

The Commission declared various items from the Highway Department and Planning and Engineering Department as surplus and authorized their sale or disposal according to existing policies.

Retirement of Sheriff’s Office K-9s

K-9 Rex was retired and placed with Fen’s Haven Animal Sanctuary for long-term care, and K-9 Flex was retired and donated to his handler Sergeant James Brawner.

Certificates of Recognition for Community Members

The Commission recognized Jody Garrison as 4-H State Horse Volunteer of the Year and honored Mason Pearson and Blaine Gregory for their high placements in a national and world high school fishing championship.

Lease Approval with Vanderbilt University Medical Center

The Commission approved a 12-month lease with auto-renewal for Sumner County property to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to provide air ambulance services.

Appointment to Budget Committee

Don Schmit was appointed for one month to fill a vacancy on the Budget Committee.

Approval of Annual Budget Consolidation

Resolution 2607-09 was approved, confirming and incorporating the County’s non-school budget previously adopted and the severed school budget, totaling $676,377,173 for Fiscal Year 2026-2027.

Appropriation for Election Commission Relocation

The Commission appropriated $13,910 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance to move two rotomat machines for the Election Commission and established an ad hoc committee to educate county departments on facility use and occupancy policies.

Appropriation for Sheriff’s Office Firearms Purchase

An appropriation of $48,645 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance from proceeds of firearm sales was approved for the Sheriff’s Office to purchase guns.

Emergency Medical Services Ambulance Purchase

The Commission approved appropriation of $305,461 from the Last Mile Teams Initiative grant for Emergency Medical Services to purchase an ambulance.

Approval of Multi-Year Copier and IT Service Agreements

Multi-year lease agreements were approved with Canon for copiers at three schools, and multi-year agreements with CSpire and CDW-G for the IT Department, including a cross-fiscal year agreement with Intermedia for Microsoft 365.

Motor Vehicle Tax Waiver for Volunteer Firefighters

The Commission adopted a waiver of the county motor vehicle privilege tax for qualified Sumner County volunteer firefighters, removing referendum language and strengthening annual verification requirements.

Carryover Appropriations for Health and Emergency Services Projects

Appropriations were approved for carryover of unused fiscal year 2026 funds: $50,000 for Hendersonville Health Department, $121,160 for Recovery Court under opioid abatement, and $242,528.23 for Westmoreland EMS.
